Ayiesha Woods

Gotee Records

CBN.comWith television commercials, radio singles and music videos competing to tell people what they “need,” it has never been more important to recognize and return to what matters most. A message that singer/songwriter Ayiesha Woods, hopes will penetrate the ears and hearts of her listeners with the release of her full-length debut Introducing Ayiesha Woods on Gotee Records.

Still in her twenties, Ayiesha brings an energetic and refreshing sound to music with the polished presentation of a veteran musician. She explains “I don’t want to be placed in one specific category. I think I represent a lot of different styles of music. My goal is to be able to put out a record with a sound that has a lot of different things for people to appreciate at one time.”

Introducing Ayiesha Woods does just that with something for everyone: Rock influenced tracks like her lead single "Big Enough", and pop-influenced songs like "The Remedy" and "What Matters Most." The project takes on a worshipful tone with cuts including "What You Do To Me" and tackles the universal language of love in the song "The Only One." Production credits include the likes of Chris Stevens (noted for his work with Toby Mac, Shawn McDonald, Paul Wright) Otto Price (noted for his work with Barlow Girl, Out of Eden, Grits), Ric Robbins (Grits, Out of Eden) and David Mullen (noted for his work with Nicole C. Mullen).

Born in Long Island, New York on July 2, 1979, Ayiesha has lived in many different cultures including Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, and Texas. With her childhood also spent being raised in Bermuda, her unique sound is spiced up with Dancehall and Caribbean influences. Other influences include Commissioned, Fred Hammond, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Lauryn Hill and India Arie. Ayiesha strives to be sincerely transparent in her own writing, to not only make music, but to move her listeners.

The granddaughter of a professional musician and the daughter of a musical man, Ayiesha was surrounded with opportunities to hone and develop her natural talent. Throughout high school she found herself singing in chorus, playing in the school band, harmonizing in the church choir or participating in musical ensembles. On a regular basis she can be found strumming chords on a guitar, playing melodies on the piano/keyboard, keeping a rhythm on percussion or sitting quietly penning lyrics.

Although Introducing Ayiesha Woods is her debut on Gotee Records, Ayiesha is no a stranger to the music industry. In 2004, she became the first female to walk away with the “Producer of the Year” award from the Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards, that year she also received the Marlin Awards’ “New Artist of the Year” and “Contemporary Vocal Performance of the Year (Female)”.

It was the nimble lyrical delivery on her independent solo release that found its way onto Jamaican Radio Airwaves where Gotee Executive, Toby McKeehan first heard Woods’ song “Crazy”. After a few inquiries to the Program Director of a radio station in Jamaica, Toby obtained contact information for Ayiesha and promptly called her. The young talented artist was initially caught off guard by the prospect, “I wasn’t home when he first called. I was in disbelief; I couldn’t believe that he was calling me.”

Ayiesha quickly realized that this was the opportunity she had been praying for. For years, she had felt a deep calling to serve God with her musical talent, to reach people with her songs – to bring her own brand of diversity, quality and purpose into music. And now, with Introducing Ayiesha Woods, she’ll be able to do just that on a wider scale than ever before.
