Jordan Continues Campaign to 'Wipe Out' ISIS

AMMAN, Jordan -- Jordan continued to pound ISIS targets from the air while speculation of a possible ground incursion surfaced. It is part of the Jordanian government's renewed campaign after the jihadist army's gruesome murder of a Jordanian pilot.

Jordan launched more than 50 airstrikes against the Islamic State. On Sunday, a top Jordanian Air Force general said the air campaign had three main goals.

Gen. Mansour al-Jabour, commander of the Jordanian Royal Air Force, said the first goal is "targeting top leadership with al-Baghdadi at the helm."

"The second target was the illegal revenues of the group, which they have been getting from fuel. [And] the third target was weakening and destroying the training centers and logistical centers," al-Jabour said.

A picture released of Jordan's King Abdullah in military fatigues reflects a resolute nation in the wake of the horrific murder of the Jordanian pilot by ISIS. This is a nation at war.

"We are determined to fight IS until we achieve the goal of this war, which is wiping out the IS completely," al-Jabour said.

He added that this is the beginning not the end of their campaign to defeat ISIS. There's some speculation that Jordan is planning a limited ground campaign.

Meanwhile, Britain's Prince Charles visited King Abdullah at the start of a six-day Mideast tour. The prince told the BBC the plight of Middle East Christians was an agonizing situation.

King Abdullah faces a daunting challenge. He needs to mobilize and maintain his country's fight against ISIS while realizing that a significant minority of his citizens sympathize with the Islamic State.

The king will be looking for military and moral support from the United States and other coalition partners as he fights for the future of his kingdom.
