JERUSALEM, Israel – A joint operation by the Shin Bet, Israel Defense Forces and Israel Police netted five members of a Palestinian terror cell led by Hezbollah.
The arrests took place near the Palestinian Authority-controlled city of Tulkarem in Samaria (the West Bank).
During interrogation, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) learned that Jouad Nasrallah, son of Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, used the Internet to recruit Palestinian terror operatives and plan attacks against Israelis.
The cell received its orders and funding to buy weapons, explosives and other paraphernalia and train its members in terror tactics from Hezbollah, the Lebanese-based Iranian proxy.
The U.S.-led nuclear deal with Iran, providing an estimated $150 billion in sanctions relief, should help Iranian-funded groups like Hezbollah.
It's not the first time the Lebanese-based terror group under Nasrallah has tried to infiltrate areas under P.A. control to organize terror cells and plan attacks against Israelis.
Using the Internet to recruit operatives and organize attacks is increasingly popular with Islamic terror groups, the Shin Bet said in a statement reported by Israel Hayom.
"The Hezbollah organization is trying to latch onto the wave of terrorism flooding Israel recently and is working vigorously to fan the flames, contributing to the growing incitement by exploiting the Palestinian population and tempting young people to carry out terrorist attacks under its instruction for payment," the statement read.
"The organization is using remote enlistment and handling of terrorist cells over the Internet with the goal of perpetrating terrorist acts from afar, without leaving a signature," the Shin Bet said.
