House Republicans passed a budget aimed at balancing the government's spending deficit Tuesday.

The budget, proposed by Sen. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., seeks wide-ranging cuts in programs like food stamps and government-paid health care.

The plan includes:

  • $2 trillion of cuts over the next 10 years in health care subsidies and coverage under the Affordable Care Act,
  • $732 billion in cuts to Medicaid and other health care programs, and
  • Almost $1 trillion in cuts to other benefit programs like Pell grants and farm subsidies.

Although the budget cleared the House, it is expected to meet some major hurdles in the Democrat-controlled Senate.
