Senate Scoreboard: GOP Picks Up One More Seat

More than a week after Election Day, the Associated Press has declared Republican Dan Sullivan the winner in a closely contested U.S. Senate race over incumbent Democrat Mark Begich.

Sullivan led by a narrow margin of a little more than 8,000 votes pending the count of absentee ballots and results from outlying areas of the state.

If Sullivan's victory holds up, Republicans will have made a net gain of eight Senate seats in the 2014 elections.

Despite the projection, Begich has not conceded the race.  A spokesperson says they will await further vote tallying.

Meanwhile, Louisiana voters still must choose between Democrat Mary Landrieu and Republican Bill Cassidy in a Dec. 6 runoff election.

Republicans have made their biggest gains in Senate contests since the Ronald Reagan landslide in 1980.
