Who Cares More for the Poor--Liberals, Conservatives?
New York Times best-selling author Arthur Brooks tackles an intriguing question in his latest book: Who cares most about the poor and disenfranchised in our society?
When it comes to showing compassion for people living in poverty in America, who are their best champions: conservatives or liberals?
For decades, many Americans have answered that it's liberals and progressives who are seen as the champions of the poor and the vulnerable and that conservatives just don't care.
But Brooks says that's not true. He says progressives have succeeded only in making more people hopeless and dependent on the government.
In his new book, The Conservative Heart: How to Build a Fairer, Happier and More Prosperous America, Brooks says conservatives are the ones who really have the best solutions for alleviating poverty and promoting equal opportunity for all.
Brooks is president of the American Enterprise Institute and the author of 10 books. He will appear on The 700 Club, Monday Aug. 10.
