Gov. Pence Sued for Refusing Syrian Refugees

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is being sued over his decision to block Syrian refugees from resettling in the state.

The Indianapolis Star reports the lawsuit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana. It accuses Pence of violating the Constitution and the Civil Rights Act by accepting refugees from other countries but not those from Syria.

Pence objected to plans for refugees to arrive in Indiana following the deadly attacks in Paris. Consequently, a family fleeing Syria was diverted from Indianapolis to Connecticut on Nov. 18 after Pence ordered state agencies to stop resettlement activities.

Meanwhile, new Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is announcing his plan to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees. He said all 10 of Canada's provincial premiers support bringing that many.
