A Doctor in the House: Wife Unveils the Real Ben Carson
Dr. Ben Carson is known as a trailblazing neurosurgeon, an outspoken commentator on national issues, and now a contender for the White House.
But Candy Carson, his wife of more than 40 years, knows him as so much more: a loving husband and father, a devout Christian, and a fierce patriot.
"He is a person of strength even though people figure because he's soft-spoken that maybe he doesn't have any strength. But he says the best way to judge strength is by accomplishment," Mrs. Carson told Religion News Service.
"He was the first one to operate on a baby in the womb," she shared. "He is also the only one of the candidates that has 67 honorary degrees. He also got the highest honor in the land, the (Presidential) Medal of Freedom."
"That doesn't happen to people who are weak," she concluded.
Candy Carson shared more about the couple's journey on The 700 Club, Jan. 8. Click play to watch.
Now, she's introducing the public to the private side of her husband in her new book, A Doctor in the House: My Life with Ben Carson.
In it she describes the couple's life together as a journey through poverty, tragedy, prosperity and joy.
"The life of a neurosurgeon isn't an easy one, and Ben has been required to go above and beyond the call of duty almost constantly," Mrs. Carson said. "The life of a neurosurgeon's wife isn't much easier. But it's all been worth it."
