Regent's New Degree Bridges Science, Faith Gap

Regent University has officially inaugurated a new undergraduate degree program in biophysical sciences.

Among the academic professionals attending the inaugural event was Dr. Richard Homan, president of Eastern Virginia Medical School.

With a fully equipped scientific laboratory, the new program is designed to provide students with both scientific knowledge and a strong education in ethics and humanities to prepare professionals to bridge the gap between science and faith.

"The healthcare sciences is a huge field of national importance, but we also know that we need very well educated scientists -- individuals who can think deeply about science, the humanities and theology and faith -- in public policy, in think tanks, in government, in other areas," Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño, dean of Regent University College of Arts & Sciences, told those at the event.

"So we want students to be able to do all of those," he said.

It's not simply a matter of bridging the gap between faith and science, Dr. Riaño said, "…but a call to explore and proclaim the greatness of this world that's been created."
