Millions of Americans are gathering to pray for the nation Thursday on the annual National Day of Prayer.

This year's theme is "Lord, hear our cry," which comes from I Kings 8:28.

"Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day," the scripture reads.

More than 43,000 prayer gatherings are planned across the country. Two hundred other countries are also joining America in prayer today.

Shirley Dobson, chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, told CBN News, "I think when you come out together it makes a statement in your community."

"It makes a statement that we're not depending on government to solve our problems, we're not depending upon business, we're depending upon God," she said. "And there's always hope as long as God is on His throne."

Dobson shared more about this year's National Day of Prayer with CBN's Jennifer Wishon. Click play to watch.
