Notorious late-term Florida abortionist James Scott Pendergraft IV was arrested in South Carolina Oct. 5 after he and a female passenger identified as his wife, were pulled over for a traffic violation on Interstate 85.
A search of Pendergraft's car by a Spartanburg County Sherriff's Office deputy found illegal drugs and forceps covered in blood and human tissue.
Spartanburg County Sherrif Chuck Wright believes Pendergraft was operating an illegal mobile abortion business.
"He traveled around the state of South Carolina without a medical license, with drugs, and with medical tools performing in-home abortions," Wright noted. "So basically we've got an illegal baby killer and his wife was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana."
Pendergraft, 58, was charged with four drug-related offenses, but remains under criminal investigation for practicing medicine without a license.
The pro-life group Operation Rescue says Pendergraft has no medical license in South Carolina and his Florida medical license remains under suspension.
But Pendergraft reportedly continues to own and operate a chain of abortion clinics in Central Florida, one or more of which offered coupons for low-income women to use for their abortions.
Meanwhile, an OB/GYN in the Detroit area is also under investigation, suspected of performing illegal abortions.
A local hospital, St. John Providence Health System, has now also revoked Dr. Michael Arthur Roth's hospital privileges since police began investigating.
Roth first came under scrutiny after he hit a special needs child with his car, causing critical injuries.
Police then found 14 containers of human tissue in his car, along with a large amount of a drug called Fentanyl, used for sedation and pain.
Police have also searched the doctor's home.
"It's frightening to think that there's a physician out there that's behaving that way," one member of the investigative team said.
"It makes you wonder why would he be carrying Fentanyl in his car unless he's doing something at a clinic himself. And is the tissue being used for research or what?" she wondered.
