Majority Believe the Bible Is the Cure for Crude Politicians

What are your thoughts on the behavior of politicians? Do you believe a lesson in polite discourse is needed? If so, what is the solution?

American Bible Society discovered that a majority of Americans believe politicians need to turn to the Good Book.

On Wednesday, the organization released the 2016 State of the Bible: The Bible and Politics survey. It shows 51 percent of American adults surveyed believe politics would be more civil if politicians read the Bible every day.

Fifty-three percent of those surveyed think politicians would be more effective if they read the Bible on a regular basis.

American Bible Society commissioned the survey and Barna Group conducted it.

Other results show 46 percent of Americans believe the Bible has too little influence in society. On the other side, the number of Americans who think the Bible has too much influence has dropped to 19 percent. That's a decrease of 13 percent from the 2011 report.

In addition, a whopping 80 percent of Americans surveyed say the Bible is sacred literature. Sixty-six percent believe the Bible contains everything a person needs to know to live a meaningful life.

"Americans still believe the Bible has the power to improve the most uncertain or tumultuous of life's challenges -- even politics -- when God's Word is allowed to influence them," said Andrew Hood, director of communications of American Bible Society.

"At American Bible Society, we see the transforming power of Scripture everyday, from broken families being restored to men and women overcoming trauma to teens being released from addiction," he continued.

"We have a 10-year goal of seeing 100 million people in the U.S. experience the transforming power of the Bible by engaging with it," Hood said. "Whether a politician or a preacher, a truck driver or a teacher, all can have their lives positively changed by God's Word."

American Bible Society releases the State of the Bible every year.
