The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack that killed six American soldiers in Afghanistan Monday. It was the deadliest attack on U.S. troops since 2012.

The attack comes as the Taliban continues making advances in Afghanistan. The Islamic terrorist group took over a strategic district in the Helmund Province.

During a recent visit to troops in Afghanistan, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter admitted things are not going well.

"The Taliban advances in some parts of the country, even if only temporary, underscore this is tough fight and it is far from over," Carter said.

In the year since the international drawdown, the Taliban insurgency has intensified.
