UK Launches Airstrikes against ISIS in Syria
British warplanes attacked ISIS targets in Syria just hours after parliament gave its approval.
Four RAF Tornados took part in a bombing raid on ISIS-controlled oil fields, with the aim of diminishing one of the group's main sources of revenue.
The jet fighters, accompanied by a refueling tanker and a drone, dropped seven 500-pound precision-guided bombs on the Omar oil field about 35 miles inside Syria's border with Iraq.
The House of Commons voted in favor of military action after a 10-hour debate.
Activists gathered outside parliament to protest the vote inside as Prime Minister David Cameron made his case for Britain's participation, saying battling the terror group would take "patience and persistence."
British Defense Minister Michael Fallon also said defeating ISIS could take years rather than months.
Opponents say bombing ISIS won't make much difference, arguing that American airstrikes have yet to drive them from their positions.
