The Islamic State is "spreading like cancer" among the refugees from Syria and other countries that have fled to Europe, according to a top NATO commander.

U.S. Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove told the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday that ISIS fighters are hiding among the refugees.

He also said he takes the jihadist army at its word that they intend to attack the West, including the United States, and they'll take the opportunity to hide among the refugees.

"I think every refugee flow needs to be looked at with an eye towards it could be taken advantage of by those who seek to do us harm," Breedlove warned lawmakers.
