Girls, Get Away with Premier Christian Cruises

By Jennifer E. Jones

CBN.comPlanning your next vacation around a cruise probably conjures up a few different images in your mind.

Many people believe that, as relaxing as sailing through the ocean sounds, cruises are a little less than family friendly. Bars serving alcohol on every deck, floating casinos, showgirls… it’s like Vegas with a starboard.

Let me put your mind at ease. Yes, it’s true that most cruises have a wild side that’s hardly suitable for you, your Nanna, or your children. However, that’s not the case with Premiere Christian Cruises.

Run by Premier Productions' Roy Morgan and Gary Gentry and Brother's Keeper singer John Sanders, this all-around entertainment company is ready to serve the Christian community with the best ideas in fun.

A Christian cruise? I was skeptical too. I imagined church on a boat that lasted for five days instead of two hours. So when Premier Christian Cruises extended me an invitation to join them on their next excursion, the Girls Get-A-Way Cruise, I graciously took their offer unsure of what kind of fun I'd have (if any).

I was more than surprised. With nothing but smiles and tons of luggage,1,600 Christian women boarded the Carnival Celebration cruise ship headed for beautiful Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas. They had good reason to be excited. The 2006 Girls Get-A-Way Cruise had everything that a woman would want to enjoy with her girlfriends: great food, side-splitting comedy, book signings, game shows, moving live music, shore excursions, and most importantly, shop-‘till-you-drop ports of call.

On board were plenty of people dedicated not only to our entertainment but also to our spiritual health. You could join in worship with former Newsong singer Michael O'Brien; get fit with early morning workouts courtesy of trainer Phyllis Ward; and go behind the pages of noted authors and writers such as Karen Kingsbury ("Life-Changing Fiction") and Shauna Feldhahn (For Women Only).

With so much to do, you'd think this girl was run ragged. However, there were plenty of moments to be still and reflect. I found myself often just walking up the highest decks and peering out on to the vast blue horizon.

The other interesting aspect of the cruise was the wide variety of women who came out. Mothers, daughters, young, old, friends, sisters, and church groups all came together for fun in the sun. Even though I came with a group of media, we all became fast friends.

As we were drawing closer to our time of demarcation, I overheard my cabin stewardess talking with another passenger. “You have been the nicest group I’ve ever had,” she said. “I will be sad to see you go.” It made me smile to see that we Christians could be a light even on vacation.

With all the laughter and fun, Roy Morgan says that it’s the less noticeable moments that make it all worth it for him. On the last full day of sailing, he was informed that a woman aboard had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior while listening to Sandi Patty sing the night before. A silent decision made in her heart makes all the difference in the world.

I know that I will never forget my Girls Get-A-Way cruise, and I think you would enjoy it too. Isn't it time for you to get away?
