MOVIE REVIEW

Hannah Montana: The Movie

Movieguide Magazine

CBN.com - Hannah Montana: The Movie, based on the popular Disney Channel TV series and starring superstar Miley Cyrus, is a delightful family movie.

Miley Stewart (played by Miley Cyrus) is a young teenager from Tennessee who has an alter ego, “Hannah Montana,” who is an international pop superstar. When the fame starts to go to her head, her father Robby Ray Stewart (played by Billy Ray Cyrus) insists that they leave Beverly Hills and spend two weeks back in their small hometown.

Slowly, Miley comes to appreciate her down-home roots as well as the local teenage farmhand, Travis. When the town is threatened by a land developer, Miley must bring “Hannah” to the small town for a benefit concert.

Hannah Montana: The Movie is extremely well made and a delight for the whole family. While the story treads along predictable ground, it is handled well with a few surprises.

The movie’s charm is in the cast. Miley Cyrus delivers a fun, yet strongly emotional performance and truly carries the movie. Music is woven throughout not only with a new collection of songs by Hannah Montana but also with country stars Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts.

There are a couple of story holes, such as how raising money would help the town and why Hannah needed to come for a concert when she obviously is wealthy, but that is merely quibbling.

The movie is heartfelt, with Miley having to choose whether she wants to be the “real” Miley from the small town or the superstar. Family is very important in the story. Also, Robby Ray sacrifices a potential romantic relationship for the benefit of helping his daughter.

The movie is without any negative content and is fit for all ages. It well deserves its G rating.

Full of much fun and music, Hannah Montana: The Movie is a family movie easy to commend.
