Stopping Insurance Fraud

By Crown Financial Ministries

CBNMoney.comInsurance premiums have been skyrocketing. There are several reasons, but part of the consequence of these large increases is rising insurance fraud, estimated now at $24 billion annually.

In a survey taken by Accenture Ltd, mentioned in a Wall Street Journal article written by Christopher Oster, 49 percent of the respondents said that people filed false insurance claims because "they could get away with it." Naturally this leads to an endless circle of more price increases to cover the cost of fraud, and more fraud because of prices going higher.

Without individual integrity the insurance system is subject to failure. When people can blame a bureaucracy, rather than a person, they become more calloused. Instead of pooling resources to share each others burdens, as insurance was initially designed, people begin to view it as a pool of resources to fleece.

After my wife, Kathy, battled breast cancer, no insurance company would accept us as customers, without an unreasonably high premium. We found a biblical alternative, Samaritan Ministries, a Christian newsletter service which is a substitute to health insurance.

Let me describe the process. Our daughter became sick. We submitted her medical bills to Samaritan Ministries. They posted our need in their monthly newsletter, and then directed several people to send their monthly designated share of $175 per family directly to us. We received notes of encouragement, checks, and many prayed for my daughter.

Galatians 6:2 teaches us to, "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Insurance is helpful for those economic calamities that come, but sharing each other's burdens through prayer, encouragement, and money is more powerful.

Help stop insurance fraud. Carry your portion of the burden, pray and encourage others in need, and only ask for what is deserved.
