CBN.com — In a small village in Indonesia, a 10-year-old boy had learned to look past his disfiguring cleft lip. He's even made friends and enjoys playing volleyball. But the thought of leaving the village to compete in his favorite sport still terrifies him.

"I didn't go to volleyball tournaments [outside the village] because I was afraid of what the other kids would say," says Irvan through is cleft lip.

Irvan's father comes to all of his son's games. But his heart breaks when he thinks about his son's situation.

And there are physical challenges to having the cleft lip and palate too. Irvan's teacher explains.

"It is hard for us to understand Irvan when he speaks," he says. "So he must write down everything that he wants to say in class."

Irvan rarely looks in the mirror. It is just too painful.

"I want my lip to be fixed," Irvan explains. "I don't want to be different because of my lip."

Irvan's dad works as a clerk and doesn't make enough for surgery for his son. So when the family learned that CBN would help, they were thrilled.

"It was wonderful news the day someone came from CBN and told me they would provide free surgery for Irvan," says Abdullah with a big smile.

Abdullah and wife took their son to the hospital where a surgeon repaired the boy's cleft lip and palate.

Today, the young boy is back playing volleyball with his school mates and has even signed up to compete in a tournament outside his village for the first time ever!

"Irvan is much more confident now," says Abdullah. "He is like a new boy."

"My lip is fixed by you, thank you CBN!" declares Irvan.
