– “I wanted to do something more” said Marjorie. “I had to help my husband meet our family’s daily needs.”
Like many young mothers in the Philippines, Marjorie was torn between the need to help provide for her family, and to care for her children.
Her husband, Rodolfo, earns about a hundred dollars a month working at an ice plant outside Manila. To help out, Marjorie took in laundry for neighbors. Still, they were barely getting by.
“I applied for work at a plastics factory,” Marjorie said. “They wanted to hire me. But who was going to look after my children?”
In the midst of her dilemma, Operation Blessing enrolled Marjorie’s 4-year-old daughter in a Back-to-School program, which meant she would receive free meals as well as help to get ready for school.
Operation Blessing also helped Marjorie learn a new skill, how to make native baskets, which she can do from home!
“I have the patience for this kind of work. I really enjoy it,” Marjorie said.
And Operation Blessing has taken one more step to help her take care of her family. They provided her with enough capital to start a home-based business making breakfast foods to sell.
Each day, Marjorie makes waffles and pastries and sells them at a nearby school and at the ice plant where her husband works.
In fact, business has been so good that Marjorie’s waffles and pastries sell out every day! That means there is now enough money for food and other household needs.
And because Operation Blessing is working through a local church, Marjorie and her family have now come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.
