HONDURAS -- Little baby Any was born with a cleft lip. She is Douglas and Ana’s only child. At the hospital, a doctor told them to schedule surgery right away for the baby, but they could not afford it.
“When I looked at her on the bed I would begin to cry,” Ana recalls. “I asked God to heal her, to send someone and operate on the child.”
Douglas’ reaction was even more heartbreaking.
“I was so distressed, says Douglas. “I would cry, and at times the idea of killing myself came into my mind.”
One day, Ana saw a flyer for Operation Blessing that was offering free cleft lip and palate surgeries. Ana applied, and a few days later Operation Blessing called.
“I was so happy,” Douglas shares. “It was a miracle. I was not expecting it at all.”
Baby Any’s surgery was successful, and just a few days later we went back to see how the young family was doing.
“I feel so grateful to those who helped our little girl,” says Douglas, with a gleam in his eyes. “They are wonderful.”
Ana adds, “I am grateful that my daughter has a new smile and hope for the future. Thank you.”
