CBN.com — In the seaside village of Lungi, Sierra Leone, most families fish for a living.
“We met a young girl named Agnes whose father was a fisherman,” says 700 Club co-host Terry Meeuwsen. “But just as soon as she was born, Agnes had almost no family at all.”
Agnes’s mother died when she was born, and her father couldn’t take care of her. So she was left with her grandmother, who was a village midwife.
“It was very difficult for me,” says Agnes’ grandmother. “We are very poor, and I didn’t have the money to take care of Agnes.”
Pastor Jacob and his wife, Fatu, wanted to take Agnes in, but they were already raising two dozen children in a small apartment.
They didn’t have room for Agnes to live there, so Agnes spent part of each day playing with the other kids, or just reading and relaxing in a safe place. But at the end of every day, she had to leave.
When Orphan’s Promise heard about Pastor Jacob taking care of so many children in such a small space, we built them a brand new home.
The children have big rooms and their own beds here. And now Agnes can live with all the people who have become her family.
