CBN.com -Nine-year-old, Arelys (A ray’-less) had serious problems learning and even focusing in school. She was simply too hungry.
“Being hungry is awful, horrible. I wanted to throw up,” the youngster told us. “I had pain in my stomach. It was horrible to be hungry!”
Arelys father had lost his job, and her mother gets up at dawn to make bread to sell. Because of the shortage of money, the family ate only one meal a day. Most nights, Areyls went to bed hungry.
“I would fall asleep and dream that my mom brought me a big piece of chicken and salad,” she recalled. “But when I woke up, I realized it was just a dream.”
One morning, Areyls went to church with her mother and sister, and heard about a new program that might help them during her father’s time of unemployment. The local program provides food for needy children, and after school care. It even teaches the kids English. The program is supported by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise.
“Hello everybody, my name is Arelys. I am nine years old,” said they girl proudly in English!
After just a few weeks at the center, Areyls was like a different child. And since Orphan’s Promise has been providing those 2 extra meals a day, she is no longer hungry, and is doing much better in school.
“I want to thank Orphan’s Promise because they helped me so much! Thank you!” she said.
