CWA Cheers Chicago for Putting Christ Back in Christmas

By Christian Newswire

CBN.comWASHINGTON, Dec. 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- The city of Chicago has announced that it has put Christ back in Christmas by reversing a recent decision to ban the airing of clips from the New Line Cinema movie "The Nativity Story" at its German-American festival, Christkindlmarket.

The city had originally contended that this movie would offend people of different faiths because it depicts the birth of Jesus Christ. Concerned Women for America (CWA) and many others were offended by this unconstitutional denial of religious expression and urged them to reconsider. We applaud them for now recognizing that Christ's birth is the true Reason for the Season.

CWA's Chief Counsel Jan LaRue said, "It's about time that Chicago officials realized that their "Christkindlmarket" needs to live up to its name. How can you have a commercial event during the Christmas season that literally means 'Christ Child Market', and reject clips from The Nativity Story as too commercial? What we need is a tutorial for some public officials who don't know the First Amendment from a Frisbee."

"The outlaw was an over-the-top assault on Christmas and our religious freedom but we are glad they have come to their senses. Now the people of Chicago will be able to enjoy clips from this wonderful movie at the marketplace.

"Much to the chagrin of mainstream media who pretend there is no war on Christmas, we are seeing significant victories. Christmas shouldn't be diminished to a season with only eggnog, snowmen and Santa Clause. Americans are not succumbing to the 'happy holidays' 'season's greetings' that excludes any mention of the birth of Christ. We give credit to all the people who are saying 'Merry Christmas' and recognizing the reason we celebrate this time each year."

Lanier Swann, CWA's Director of Government Relations said, "It is a sad day in America when we deem the permitted sponsorship of the Nativity Story at a festival named after the Christ child a miracle. What it should have been from the very start was a no-brainer! Nonetheless, this remarkable turn of events serves to remind all Americans of the effectiveness of grassroots activism. Chicagoans and concerned citizens across the country united in their vocalized distress and affected change. Now that is something to celebrate."

Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization.
