Please Help my Baby Sister’s Smile

When five-year-old Maria first saw her baby sister Naomi’s cleft lip, she asked her mother Carmen if she had dropped the newborn. Crushed, Carmen wondered how she could ever get Naomi the help she needed. Read Transcript

Reporter: 5-YEAR-OLD

MARIA REMEMBERS THE DAY SHE

CAME HOME AND SAW HER BABY

SISTER.

SIX MONTHS LATER, SHE IS

STILL SHOCKED BY THE CHILD'S

APPEARANCE.

SHE STILL WONDERS WHAT

HAPPENED.

HOW DID HIS MOUTH GET

LIKE THAT.

I TOLD MY DAUGHTER, NO, I

DIDN'T DROP HER.

I FELT SO BAD WHEN SHE SAID

THAT.

Reporter: MEANWHILE,

BABY NAOMI WASN'T GAINING

WEIGHT BECAUSE IT WAS

DIFFICULT FOR HER TO DRINK

FROM THE BOTTLE.

SHE COULDN'T SWALLOW

ENOUGH MILK.

IT WAS COMING THROUGH THE

NOSE AND SHE WOULD CHOKE ON

IT.

Reporter: CARMAN'S

ALCOHOLIC HUSBAND HAD

ABANDONED THE FAMILY.

THAT'S WHEN THE

RESPONSIBILITY FELL ON HER.

THAT'S WHEN CBN OFFERED TO

HELP.

WE SET UP SURGERY IN PERU.

A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE

OPERATION, WE WENT BACK TO

SEE NAOMI.

EVERYONE IS HAPPY NOW

BECAUSE SHE CAN SMILE AND

DRINK HER MILK.

Reporter: WHEN

5-YEAR-OLD MARIA SAW HER

SISTER'S MOUTH AFTER

SURGERY, HER REACTION WAS

PRICELESS.

SHE SAID, MOMMY, MOMMY,

HER MOUTH IS HEALED.

LOOK, MAMA, IT'S ALL

BETTER.

I AM VERY HAPPY BECAUSE

NOW MY BABY SISTER CAN

SMILE.

THANK YOU, CBN, FOR FIXING

NAOMI'S LIP.
