For many children, meeting a
superhero is a wish come true.
And for Ricky Mena,
making it happen
has turned into
a mission because
of a dream involving his late
grandmother and Spiderman.
She came to me in a dream
and basically showed me
a movie where Spiderman
was handing out presents
to thousands of kids.
And she said that was what I was
supposed to do when I woke up.
And I had the courage to wake up
and actually follow that dream,
and it's turned
into what it is now.
CALEB KINCHLOW: And
that's Heart of a Hero,
a nonprofit
organization designed
to inspire, motivate, and
empower children who need it
most.
Are you supposed to
be here much longer?
No?
That's good news.
You guys are going home soon?
RICKY MENA: Cancer is one
of the big evil villains
that these kids
battle, you know.
And it's just been incredible
to know that they're battling
this thing four or five years.
They're in the hospital for
the majority of their time.
They don't go to school, don't
get to play on the playground,
lose all their friends.
And all they have is their mom
or dad who have to work, too.
So you know, it's a
pretty special thing
that we bring to the table.
CALEB KINCHLOW: In
less than three years,
this Spiderman and
his team has seen
more than 5,000
children battling life
threatening illnesses.
Ricky still remembers
one of the first,
a 9-year-old who died from brain
cancer named Charlie de Grange.
RICKY MENA: Going
into that visit,
I knew that he was terminal.
He was 8 years old at that time.
His reaction was priceless,
because he was just in shock
that Spiderman
would come to him.
He was the first terminal
child that I met.
And unfortunately, he was
the first to pass away also.
I visited him as much
as I could as Spiderman,
because we became
really good friends.
And then I wrote a song for him,
and it went viral on Facebook.

LYRICS: I'd trade your
health for mine just
to sit and watch you play.
He saw the song-- cried.
And his father hit me up
and said, you know what?
Charlie wants to meet the
guy who wrote the song.
So I got a chance to be
friends with Charlie twice.
His reaction every time I showed
up whether it be Spiderman
or as myself was
truly like priceless.
CALEB KINCHLOW: Heart of a
Hero continues to expand,
seeking donations
and partnerships
to support the mission.
RICKY MENA: It doesn't have
to be Spiderman related.
We meet a lot of little
girls who love Frozen.
We meet some kids
who love Iron Man.
Anything that, you
know, that kids like.
Do you like that backpack?
Yeah?
Well, guess what?
It's yours.
I brought it for you.
RICKY MENA: And that's
a huge help to us.
We don't have to spend
the money that we use on
travel and getting to
know these kids on toys.
And it's truly a big help.
I can't meet every child
across the United States.
So if I can find some
good hearted people who
have a great character and have
the heart to do it out there,
then that's what I want
to do in the future.
Wait, one more.
Hold on.
All right.
I think I blinked on
that on, so let's--
