(bright music)
- Welcome to "The 700 Club".
My take about last night was
that the Republicans have a dream ticket,
DeSantis for president
and Tim Scott for vice president,
it will win becausethe Democrats right now
don't have anybody,
their governor in New Yorkis washed with problems,
the governor of Californiais being recalled
and they have nobodyelse except Kamala Harris
to take over because JoeBiden won't be there.
But I say, just keep your eyes open.
Well, a liberal wishlist
big governmental waste,
job killing tax hikes,
and Washington in the middle of your life
from cradle to grave.
(laughs) That's howRepublican Senator Tim Scott,
described PresidentBiden's plans for America.
And what's the price tag of those plans,
a toxic six Trillion, that'sright trillion dollars.
White House Correspondent EricPhilips brings us this recap
of the president's firstspeech to Congress.
- President Biden spokefor one hour, four minutes,
spending the vast majorityof his time talking
about infrastructure,both physical and social.
First though, he touted hispandemic success stories.
- Now, after just 100 days,
I can report to the nation,
America is on the move again.
- [Eric] Right out of the gate
the president launchedinto a 100 day laundry list
of successes,
but not before recognizingthe visual history
of the two people behind him.
- Madam Speaker, Madam Vice President.
(Congress applauds)
No president has ever saidthose words from this podium,
no president has ever said those words.
And it's about time.
- [Eric] From there, Bidenpressed his pandemic playlist,
capping it off with a plea.
- Go get vaccinated America,
go and get the vaccination.
- [Eric] Then came hisinfrastructure plans,
beginning with the $2trillion American jobs plan
that he says addresses infrastructure,
jobs, and environmentall in one fell swoop.
- There is simply no reason whythe blades for wind turbines
can't be build in Pittsburghinstead of Beijing.
No reason.(Congress applaud)
There's no reason why Americanworkers can't lead the world
in the production of electricvehicles and batteries.
- [Eric] Next, the president laid out
his second infrastructure layer,
the $1.8 trillion planfor American families.
It will provide universal preschool,
two years of free community college
and extended family leave.
- How do we pay for myjobs in family plan?
I will not impose any tax increase
on people making less than $400,000.
But it's time for corporate America.
And the wealthiest 1% Americans
have just began to pay their fair share.
- [Eric] A financial commitment targeted
by Republican Senator Tim Scott
in part of his official response.
- It's a liberal wishlistof big government waste,
plus,
the biggest job killingtax hikes in a generation.
Tonight we also heard abouta so-called family plan,
even more taxing, even more spending
to put Washington even morein the middle of your life,
from the cradle to college.
- [Eric] The president sayshe's spent plenty of time
with President Xi Jinping,
and he knows of his desirefor world dominance.
- I made absolutely clear
that we will defend America'sinterests across the board.
- [Eric] Another international topic,
Biden doubled down on hisdecision to remove American troops
from Afghanistan by September.
- After 20 years of value, valor and sacrifice,
it's time to bring those troops home.
- [Eric] Biden also urged Congress
to pass the Voting Rights Act,
legislation that wouldprotect the rights of dreamers
and the George Floyd Policing Act.
- Let's get it done next month,
by the first anniversaryof George Floyd's death.
- [Eric] In his response,Scott said the president
is heading in the wrong direction.
- A president who promisedto bring us together
should not be pushingagendas that tear us apart.
- Noticeably missing fromthe president's speech
was any elaboration on thecrisis at the Southern border.
It was clearly an address designed
to pitch his American Families Plan,
and next he'll hit the roadto try and sell that plan
to the American people,
with stops in bothGeorgia and Pennsylvania.
Eric Philips, CBN News.
- Thanks Eric.
Chief Political Analyst,David Brody joins us now
for more on the president's speech.
David, the president wantsto spend $6 trillion,
are Republicans gonnalet him get away with it?
- Well, and Pat that $6 trillion
is just proposed (chuckles)in the first hundred days,
how much more does hehave in the hip pocket?
In terms of Republicansletting him get away
with it on paper, no,
the problem is what are Democrats gonna do
when it comes to budget reconciliation?
I mean, if we take all ofthis 6 trillion, right?
That first two trillion is already done,
it's in the bank,
it's being spent as we speak
and that was done onbudget reconciliation,
that was the COVID stimulus bill.
And now we've got those $2 trillion more
on the infrastructure,
and I put that in air quotes,
'cause infrastructure apparentlymeans anything nowadays.
Two trillion on infrastructure
and then the American FamiliesPlan that he's talking about.
So, I mean, this is just bizarrethat he's even doing this
because this is a lotmore than I think people,
the center or left,
Joe Biden had promisedduring the campaign trial.
But I will say this, hehad a key line last night
the people should pay attention to,
he said, "We the peopleare the government".
Wait, what? We, thepeople are the government?
I think that sayseverything you need to know
about what his mentality is,
what this administration's mentality is,
which is indeed thegovernment is here to help,
we're Ronald Reagan.
We remember what Ronald Reagan said,
those are the worst
or those are the most dangerouslines you can ever hear.
The most dangerouswords you can ever hear.
"We're the Federal Governmentand we're here to help."
That's not good at all.
And also one other point, Pat,
he said the word freedomin the speech one time,
he said the word invest 15 times.
You can read into that, what you can read into that.
- Oh, he also toutedthat a so-called H.R. 1
which we know is a stocking horse
for a takeover over ofour electoral system
by the Federal Government,
to take it away from state legislatures.
It's a horrible bill yetthat was the first one
that Nancy Pelosi put on the table.
But he ain't said, well, let's pass it,
like it's so important.
What do you think about that?
- Well, a couple of things,
the only way H.R. 1 isgonna pass it would have...
you know, it sort of passed the House,
the only way it's gonna pass the Senate
is if they change thelegislative filibuster
which means taking thatthreshold as you know
down from 60 to 50 votes.
Right now, Joe Manchin is the key to
in essence saving America from it.
I mean, if Joe Manchin says, okay
then Democrats are gonnarush H.R. 1 through
and D.C. statehood and the Equality Act,
and I can go on and on.
And so this is how important it is.
You know, it's interesting,Joe Biden talked about unity
so much as a candidate for president
and now he's invoking Jim Crow.
And I shouldn't evensay, invoking Jim Crow,
he's actually saying thatRepublicans are trying
to invoke Jim Crow type laws in America.
How does that help unify the country?
And that's why H.R. 1 has come around
because Democrats believe
that they have to federalizeelections in essence
to stop Republicans from goingback to Jim Crow, you know.
Pat, that wasn't a state of the union
technically last night,
it was a joint session of Congress speech.
For the state of ourunion is deeply divided
and he had talked aboutAmerica is on the move
but conservatives would say,America is on the move alright
but America is on the move to the abyss.
That's what they think today.
- You know the thing thatTim Scott pointed out
is he had a bill having to do with police
and it was stuffed by afilibuster by the Democrats.
That's amazing, isn't it?
- Yeah, it really is.
And Tim Scott speech wasreally amazing last night.
He was able to weave his faith story,
I've talked to Tim Scott manytimes about his faith story.
You know, he was saved as a youngster,
he was failing all of his classes,
he got mentored by amanager at Chick-fil-A,
it's a great story.
But yeah, he was able to weave that,
plus he was actually sayingthat he was called uncle Tom
and the N word by progressives,
by progressives!
and that's what he said last night.
And then we can go on about Tim Scott.
Look, I think he had so many different
and great lines last night,
but he was able to take that idea of unity
that Joe Biden talked about
and said there's been no unity at all.
As a matter of fact, what Ithought what was interesting,
one of his best lines which says,
when he's talking about Democrats
on the infrastructure bill,
he says, "they can't even buildbridges to build bridges."
And, you know, Tim Scott,an up and coming star,
he's been an up and comingstar for a long time.
But I agree with your assessmentat the top of the show,
Ronald DeSantis, Tim Scott ticket
could be extremely appetizingfor Republicans in 2024
if president Trump decides not to run.
- Well, I mean, even ifhe doesn't decide to run,
I think they still ought to do it.
But that's my fear.
David, thank you somuch for your insights.
- You bet.
- Well, in other news, this is a shocker,
a knock at the door at 6:30 AM.
Who is it?
The Feds are executing a search warrant
on the former president'spersonal attorney.
And what did they want to do?
They've taken the confidentialattorney/client files
away from him,
but the one thing they didn't take
was something about counter Biden,
his dusty aide, they didn't take,
they took everything else.
Are we weaponizing theJudiciary and the IRS?
It looks like it.
Efrem Graham has more.
- Pat, Federal agents arrived
at Rudy Giuliani's homeearly Wednesday morning
with a search warrant,
seizing electronic devicesincluding his cell phone.
They also raided his offices confiscating
a long-time Aide's computer.
Giuliani is under investigation
for potentially breakingfederal lobbying laws
in his business dealings in Ukraine,
as well as for attempts toinfluence Ukraine's Government
to investigate Joe Biden's son Hunter
who served on the board ofa Ukrainian Energy Company.
A North Carolina judge denied a request
to immediately releasepolice body camera video
of the deadly shooting of Andrew Brown Jr.
Pasquotank County JudgeJeff Foster cited the safety
of officers in the video,
and possible prejudiceto a potential trial.
He did order body cam andpolice dashboard footage
be shown to the family within 10 days.
The public might see thevideo in 30 to 45 days.
In court a prosecutor said,
Brown hit law enforcementofficers with his car
before they opened fire.
Brown's family says theyare deeply disappointed
by the decision, Pat.
- Well, as I said the other day
they need to release thatimmediately and stop the confusion
because here's it'sjust in Elizabeth City,
just South of where I'm sitting.
And it's a nice peaceful community,
and we don't need any racial strife
but until that body cam is released
and people can see what actually happened,
there's going to be aterrible racial problem
in the city of Elizabeth City
and Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
And I think the Judge Hagiwhatever he wanted to do,
he had the authority to release it,
and I think the time hascome to make that public
as quickly as possible.
