Brits Mark Slave Abolition Anniversary

CBN News

CBNNews.com -- Marchers wearing yokes and chains have embarked on a 250-mile trek from a church in the English port city of Hull, to London.

The march was planned to mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British slave trade.

Hull was the home of William Wilberforce, a visionary who led a 20-year campaign in Parliament to abolish the trade.

That goal was achieved in 1807.

His struggle is portrayed in the feature film "Amazing Grace."

William Wilberforce, a great-great-great-grandson of the parliamentarian, and Kate Davson, a great-great-great-granddaughter, joined the group as it left Holy Trinity Church in Hull.
