Huckabee's Optimistic Run for President

CBNNews.com - As a Baptist minister, Mike Huckabee knows his Bible. As the former governor of Arkansas, he learned how to be a politician.

These two roles make a winning combination for Huckabee to woo Christians and non-Christians alike.

That is what this candidate is banking on, as he steps up his efforts to become the next President of the United States.

CBN News spoke with Huckabee after Sunday night's GOP debate in Orlando. In typical form, Huckabee was humble and optimistic - keeping his eyes firmly planted above.

"I wasn't supposed to be governor," he said. "I was never supposed to be elected lieutenant governor. It's not because of something in me, but because greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world."

It's this attitude and outlook that has kept Huckabee in the race.

But national polls have not been kind to him, and he has only raised about $600,000, a drop in the buck compared to top-tier candidates.

But Huckabee remains fixed on the goal ahead.

"I've got the heart and the will, and I also have the resolve," he said.

"The thing that amazes me, particularly in a Christian audience, is that people would ever question the unexpected, in fact the miraculous," Huckabee responded when CBN News asked him about his "elect-ability."

"I've lived my life watching the miracles take place," he said. "The Scriptures tell me it's all about doing God doing things that aren't supposed to happen."
