Governor Pawlenty: McCain will “Make Evangelicals Proud”
June 30, 2008
In an interview today with The Brody File, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty told me Evangelicals have nothing to fear when it comes to a John McCain presidency. Watch the video clip above and read the transcription below.
Brody: "Should Evangelicals be concerned at all about a McCain presidency? Can you pretty much look Evangelicals in the eye and say listen, don’t worry about John McCain as the President of the United States?”
Governor Tim Pawlenty: “Yes I can David. I mean, if you think about the major things he stands for; winning the war, getting us strict constructionists on the Supreme Court which is so important not just for now but for the next 20 years, appreciating the limited role of government and his value system. And while nobody is perfect, I’m not perfect, you’re not perfect and I’m sure there are certain things here or there that people might say well I don’t fully agree with him on this or that but as a general proposition his value system, his faith system I think would be something that would make Evangelicals proud.”
Nobody disagrees that McCain’s positions resonate more with Evangelicals. Once again it gets back down to talking about these issues more and showing to the Evangelical community that you care enough about these hot button social issues to invest some political capitol and not worry so much about the “pander alert” button that may go off in some quarters.
