IDF Deputy Chief of Staff: Iranian Threat Outweighs the Rest
JERUSALEM, Israel - IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Yair Golan met with the foreign press in Jerusalem on Wednesday to address a number of threats facing Israel today.
Among those threats are terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah and their growing offensive capability, which Golan called "unprecedented."
"We can say that our enemies reach a new level of capabilities and the meaning of that is that future wars are going to be much harsher comparing to anything else we have experienced in the last 20 years," Golan told reporters at Jerusalem's King David Hotel.
The deputy chief said Hezbollah's 100,000-plus rocket and missile cache, along with the terror group's improved capabilities, will make any future confrontation much harsher than in the past two decades. It will be an all-out war, he said, that will inflict "devastating damage" on Lebanon, likely including civilian areas, where Hezbollah has embedded itself.
Golan also told reporters though ISIS gets more attention, Iran and its ambition to dominate the Middle East poses an even greater threat to Israel and the region.
