President Donald Trump said peace in the Middle East would be a 'great legacy' when meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at the United Nations General Assembly. It's there the two world leaders focused talks on ending the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians.

"His representatives have been working very hard with everybody involved towards peace," said President Trump. "I mean, we're looking seriously at peace and maybe, ultimately peace in the whole of the Middle East and I think we have a pretty good shot."

"And we are very certain that you, Mr. President, are determined to reach real peace in the Middle East and this gives us the assurance and the confidence that we are on the verge of real peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis," said Abbas.

The meeting comes two days after Trump sat down with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York City. Trump and Netanyahu discussed "Iran's destabilizing behavior" along with peace in the Middle East.

"I think Israel would like to see it and the Palestinians would like to see it," said President Trump. "I think there is a good chance it could happen."

Netanyahu mirrored that sentiment during the meeting. Trump says he hopes to see "significant progress" on a deal before the year's end.
