Christians and Muslims - How To Bridge the Gap

Muslims are the fastest growing group of religious people in the world, making Islam is the second largest religion behind Christianity.

However not all Muslims get the chance to meet a Christian. Eight out of 10 Muslims have never met a true Christ follower, according the Mission Network News.

Perry LaHaie, with Frontiers USA, told MNN the lack of Christian influence means Muslims have "misconceptions about what a Christian is."

"Jesus spoke over 90 times in the Koran, but it's not the full picture of who Jesus is. So they just need to meet real Jesus followers who can explain what Jesus is all about and introduce them to the Bible. We want to introduce Muslims to Jesus so they can experience the joy we have in him," LaHaie said.

Lahaie says because Muslims are very relational it is important to develop friendships with them in order to build trust and share the Gospel.

In the United States, few Christians are reaching out to Muslims. A church in Houston is trying to change that by sharing Christian kindness to Muslims who worship at a mosque next door to their building.

Pastor Rich Reaves and Senior Pastor Elliot Scott of Life Path Church have reached out to their Muslim neighbors by volunteering to help at one of their events..

When Reaves learned the Muslim congregation was planning a large event, he offered his church's soccer field and parking lot to make room for those visiting.

Church members didn't attempt to proselytize, but instead choose to show the love of Christ through acts of service. Their actions made a big impact and earned gratitude from their Muslims neighbors.

In many parts of the world, Christians and Muslims are unable to come together. Only a small percentage of Muslims in Middle Eastern countries are familiar with Christianity.

Fifteen percent or fewer of Muslims understand Christian beliefs, according to Pew Research.
