Islamic Jihad Never Ceases, Even for Natural Disasters

Although the horrific devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina demands America's full attention, and rightly so, Islamic jihad never ceases, even for natural disasters. Just witness how Islamofascists in Indonesia threatened to carry out attacks against foreign aid workers in the country's tsunami-ravaged Aceh region a few months back. Given such depravity, an article in this week's edition of Time magazine is particularly noteworthy. Titled "The New Bin Laden," the piece explains how Jordanian jihadi Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, the driving force behind the ongoing terrorist insurgency in Iraq, is gradually eclipsing Bin Laden as the number one inspiration for aspiring mujahideen worldwide. And his Al-Qaeda franchise is expanding as well, according to Time:

"Al-Zarqawi has been overseeing preparations by highly trained operatives for a 'large scale' terrorist attack in Europe..." reads the article. "In communications with another al-Qaeda leader, he has spoken of sleeper cells in Turkey and Iran. The reports imply that these cells may be in contact with European jihadist groups that previously had no links to al-Qaeda."

Some of them may have no concrete links with Al-Qaeda, but these European jihadist groups do share a common goal with Zarqawi and company: the annhilation of Christians and Jews and the establishment of a worldwide Islamic state. Therefore, cultivating contacts in the Middle East and elsewhere from which they can draw financial and logistical support isn't difficult for these Eurojihadis--including in Iraq, where several European terrorists have already met their demise after arriving to wage (un)holy war. As for Zarqawi's targeting of Europe, I addressed some disturbing reports out of Italy in my August 25 blog. Combine this with recent news of Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists being arrested in the Balkans--the gateway to Western Europe--and the need for vigilance on the Old Continent becomes that much more clear.
