Iran Blames Tragedy on America

Leave it to Iran's terrorist government to use a horrific tragedy as an occasion to bash America. Yesterday in northern Baghdad, nearly 1,000 Shiites died in a stampede after panic broke out during a religious procession across a Tigris River bridge. Apparently, mayhem ensued after rumor spread that Sunni suicide bombers were among the marchers. So what did Iraq's eastern neighbor, Iran, have to say about this human disaster? Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, told the country's official news agency, IRNA, that the carnage occurred because of--you guessed it--the good 'ol U.S.A. According to this maniacal mullah, “For certain, the occupiers of Iraq, who under the guise of security have forced their evil presence on the people of Iraq, are responsible for such destructive accidents and must be held accountable."

Like most of the rhetoric that has emanated from Tehran since 1979, Khameini's crazed ramblings don't merit a response. But one development that most certainly does is the fact that Iran's new President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, will be in New York from September 14-16 to take part in a ceremony for the United Nations' General Assembly. Readers of this blog know that Ahmadinejad is little more than a sadistic Islamist thug masquerading as a statesman. As a former high-ranking official in Iran's Revolutionary Guards, he served as a torturer and executioner of political dissdients and also masterminded several assassinations of Iranian opposition leaders abroad. He is most notorious for his role as a leader in the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-81, when radical Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. And now, this terrorist is coming to the United States, where he is, ironically enough, currently under investigation for his prominent role in the hostage ordeal. In a perfect world, he'd be arrested as soon as he set foot on American soil. But apparently, "President" Ahmadinejad will receive a visa and even be allowed to deliver a speech at the U.N.--which is considered international, and not American, territory (irregardless of the fact it sits right in the heart of New York City). President Bush has even said that Ahmadinejad will likely be allowed to attend the U.N. event. This is outrageous.

In 1995, then-New York City mayor Rudy Giulianai ejected terrorist godfather Yasser Arafat from the U.N.'s 50th anniversary celebration in New York. Said a righteously outraged Rudy: "our government and our media had been romanticizing Arafat as a man you can sit down at a table with like a business meeting and conduct negotiations." Ahamdinejad--who once helped brutalize 52 innocent Americans for well over a year--should receive nothing less than the same treatment upon his arrival in the Big Apple.
