Regent Grad Writes Screenplay for Family Film "The Ultimate Gift"
At his grandfather's death, a young man is presented with an unlikely inheritance taking him on a journey that will change him forever in The Ultimate Gift, releasing to theaters March 9.
When his wealthy grandfather dies, trust fund baby Jason Stevens (played by Drew Fuller) anticipates a big inheritance. Instead, his grandfather has devised a crash course on life: twelve gifts designed to challenge Jason in improbable ways, sending him on a journey of self-discovery and forcing him to determine what is most important in life -- money or happiness.
Winner of the Heartland Film Festival's Crystal Heart Award, The Ultimate Gift is based on Jim Stovall's best-selling novel, which has sold more than 3 million copies. The screenplay was written by Cheryl McKay, a 1995 graduate of Regent University.
This family friendly movie features an all-star cast including Golden Globe winner and six-time Emmy nominee Brian Dennehy, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee James Garner, and Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Signs).
Ted Baehr's MovieGuide endorses the film. "The Ultimate Gift is a very entertaining, emotional, finely crafted, highly polished gem. It is one of those rare movies that shows you don't need a lot of money to make a great movie."
"The storyline is captivating. The movie tugs at the heartstrings. James Garner, Brian Dennehy and the others give superb, dedicated, natural perfomances."
MovieGuide goes on to praise recent Academy Award nominee, Abigail Breslin. "Perhaps the most exciting actor is little Abigail Breslin… She teaches Jason about life, death, love, and Jesus. This young actress is terrific."
"As far as MovieGuide is concerned, we want to see The Ultimate Gift again and again."
The Dove Foundation, the widely recognized authority in film reviews and ratings for family entertainment, has awarded its highest rating and the Dove Family Approved seal to The Ultimate Gift.
In the March 12th issue of Forbes, Alan Farnham writes: “Having had an advance screening, we can tell you authoritatively that you've never seen a picture like it. Take It's a Wonderful Life, add The Heiress, put in a pinch of The Millionaire (a 1931 goodie with George Arliss) and you're starting to get warm. Starring James Garner, it's a witty, winning explication of how -- as today's financial planners like to say -- you can "leave your legacy" successfully.”
Marketed by Fox Faith and distributed by The Bigger Picture, The Ultimate Gift will be shown in approximately 800 theaters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
