A gigantic asteroid just barely missed Earth over the weekend.

The massive chunk of rock nicknamed "pitbull" measured 60 feet, roughly the same size as a small house.

It whizzed by New Zealand on Sunday and had it hit the Earth the results would have been disastrous.

Scientists only spotted it about a week ago.

An asteroid about the same size blasted through the atmosphere over Russia in 2013 causing considerable damage.

NASA said the asteroid was a close call but posed no risk.
