JERUSALEM, Israel -- Rock throwing incidents by Israeli Arabs are on the increase again in Jerusalem, injuring people, including children, and often inflicting extensive property damage.

On Tuesday morning, a group of Arabs threw rocks at an Egged bus full of passengers en route to the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, smashing multiple windows. There were no reports of injury to passengers.

Rock throwers have also been targeting the city’s light rail system, with Israel Hayom reporting that nearly half the cars -- 14 out of 23 -- are out of service.

The company operating the light rail had to reduce service to Jerusalemites who use the train to travel to and from work. This past Sunday, four more cars were damaged by rocks.

On Monday, 50 Arabs attacked a passenger car in Hebron, injuring an infant and his father.

During the week-long Sukkot holiday, Israel Police deployed hundreds of additional forces, including many undercover policemen, in the Old City and potential trouble spots in predominantly Arab neighborhoods in east Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, increasing numbers of Israeli Arabs are leaving the country to join forces with Islamic State jihadists in Syria. The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) says the would-be jihadists travel first to Jordan or Turkey from where they’re smuggled into Syria.
