Porn’s Newest Prey: Wireless Devices

CBN.com – (CBN News) - From iPods to cell phones, wireless devices are tops on many kids' Christmas lists.

And pornographers are seeing that trend as a big opportunity.

Video iPods are the latest small gadgets capable of delivering video. But they are also becoming the latest vehicle to provide access to pornography.

Electronic stores we checked with were sold out.

“I think there are hundreds of companies lined up to capitalize [on this]. It’s just a matter of who's going to do it first, and see the mistakes, in order to build a better mousetrap,” said Xobile.com’s Harvey Kaplan.

“You'd be amazed how good the technology is right now. If you actually punch up an image of a beautiful woman, it'll be pretty crystal clear,” said porn actor Ron Jeremy.

Estimates for world-wide mobile porn sales are as high as $1 billion this year. That is up 50 percent from last year.

With just a few shopping days left until Christmas, family groups are warning parents to watch out. Video iPods and cell phones are fun for kids, but they can also offer easy access to pornography.

Charmaine Yoest of the Family Research Council explained, “Parents are able to monitor what their kids get at a computer station that is set in their homes. But now, with these mobile devices, you have porn walking around and there are all kinds of opportunities for kids to be exposed to it.”

Cell phone companies are developing filters to block porn, but family groups say parental vigilance is the best control.
