Keystone Pipeline, Energy Bill Stalled in Senate

A vote on possible construction of the Keystone XL pipeline isn't likely anytime soon.

A bipartisan Senate effort to approve the measure stalled Monday after Republicans blocked an energy efficiency bill tied to the Keystone vote.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he would have allowed for a separate vote on the pipeline if the Senate passed the energy bill without any changes. But Republicans wanted to be able to make amendments to the measure.

The Senate fell five votes short of the 60 needed to move forward on the energy bill.

A Senate vote on the Keystone Pipeline would have likely pressured the Obama administration to act, ending years of delay for the project.
