Scare-Election 2014: Dems Targeting Black Vote
African-American voters helped propel President Barack Obama to victory in 2008 and 2012, but this year some say dissatisfaction in the president might turn into low turnout among black voters for the midterm elections.
The president is doing radio ads targeting black voters in an effort to help Democratic candidates across the country.
And in some parts of the country Democrats are resorting to fear tactics to frighten blacks into voting.
Democrats in Georgia are turning to the controversy in Ferguson, Missouri, to bring out the vote for Senate Democratic nominee Michelle Nunn on election day.
A mailer was sent out dealing with the police involved in the shooting death of Michael Brown earlier this year.
"If we want a better, safer future for our children, it's up to us to vote for change. The choices may not always be perfect, but the cost of inaction is simply too great," the mailer reads.
But should the tragedy at Ferguson be used for political gain?
"No, no I don't think so," Victor Robins from Norfolk, Virginia, said. "That turns a lot of people away from certain candidates when you do stuff like that. That's something that shouldn't be used. There's a way for you to gain an advantage. I don't believe in that."
