More than 1,000 people came together in Provo, Utah, on Monday to break a Guinness world record.

They created the world's largest live nativity scene. It featured a variety of performers who made videos and posted them on YouTube.

Organizers say it took about a month to round everyone up.

"We also had over 1,000 angels to shatter the world record -- previously it was 800. We had well over 1,000 today," Austin Craig, a participant, said.

"Yes, it's cool we're breaking a world record; yes it's cool we have so many people here. But I think it's cool that we're making a good video that'll inspire a lot of people," Stuart Edge, another participant, said.

Organizers say breaking the world record was secondary to the true reason for the Christmas season - celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
