'Tis the Season: Atheists Tell Americans 'Skip Church'

An atheist group has a launched a huge billboard campaign in the heart of the Bible belt enouraging Americans to skip church this Christmas.

The displays are sponosred by the American Atheists and feature a young girl writing a letter to Santa, saying "All I want for Christmas is to skip church! I'm too old for fairy tales."

The billboards are located in residential areas and near schools and churches in Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee, Saint Louis, Missouri, and Fort Smith, Arkansas.

According to the group's website, "The billboards are aimed at in-the-closet atheists who are pressured to observe religious traditions during the holidays, and who might also want to attend the annual American Atheists National Convention in Memphis in April."

The group's attacks on Christianity have become routine. In 2013, it put up a billboard in New York's Times Square which read, "Keep the merry, dump the myth."
