Police say the man suspected of beheading his co-worker at a food processing plant in Moore, Oklahoma was placed under arrest in a hospital where he underwent surgery, Saturday.

Moore Police Department Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said Alton Nolen was charged with first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon when he emerged from sedation.

Nolen beheaded Colleen Hufford, 54, and stabbed Traci Johnson, 43, before being shot by a company official.

The suspect  was in the process of being fired when he left the human resources building and drove to the entrance of the business.

There, he ran into a vehicle before going inside, where he encountered his first victim, Hufford, and severed her head.

Nolan was allegedly assaulting the second Vaughan Foods employee, Johnson, when he was shot and wounded by the company's chief operating officer, a reserve sheriff's deputy.

Both the suspect and Johnson were hospitalized and in stable condition Friday.

Lewis says investigators learned Nolen had recently started trying to convert several employees to Islam.

Moore police have brought in the FBI to aid in the investigation and look into the man's background because of the nature of the attack.

A Vaughan spokeswoman said the company was "shocked and deeply saddened" by the incident.
