A statue of the Rev. Billy Graham could be placed inside the U.S. Capitol.

The North Carolina House approved a bill Thursday which officially asks a congressional committee to approve the step.

Each state is allowed two statues in the Capitol building.

Graham's would replace one of a controversial former governor, Charles Aycock.

The measure passed 71 to 28 Thursday, with Democrats casting the dissenting votes.

Several were upset the bill was brought to the floor without committee debate.
