California Considering Nixing Vaccination Opt-Out
12-31-1969
Lawmakers in California are proposing legislation that would make it harder for parents to opt-out of vaccinating their children.
The measure would no longer allow parents to cite personal beliefs or religious reasons to send unvaccinated kids to private and public schools.
"As a pediatrician I have personally witnessed children suffering lifelong injury or death from vaccine-preventable infection," Dr. Richard Pan, one of the state legislators in favor of the measure, said.
The move comes after a measles outbreak where dozens of people were infected. Health officials believe it began at Disneyland.
