The brutal cold temperatures are coming back to northern New England and parts of New York, Monday, sending wind chills possibly as low as -30 degrees in some places.

The cold weather will also cause melting snow to refreeze and could make driving dangerous.

The cold isn't limited to New England. The Great Lakes are freezing over, with Lake Erie almost totally frozen.

Lakes Huron and Superior are nearly 80 percent frozen, according to the New York Daily News.

"The official ice concentration is on par with where we were at last year. However, the situation has changed quite a bit this past week. If you were looking at the current ice two weeks ago it was significant, but not nearly what we have today," Anne Clites, physical scientist for the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, told the Detroit Free Press.

The Coast Guard is breaking up ice in Maryland.

Winter storm warnings are also out for much of northern Louisiana, parts of Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

Storms and freezing temperatures are blamed for 22 deaths last week in Tennessee.
