A New York man believed to be a supporter of ISIS is in custody Thursday, accused of attacking an FBI agent.

Fareed Mumuni, 21, is charged with lunging at an agent with a kitchen knife Wednesday. Counterterrorism agents were searching his Staten Island home when the alleged attack took place.

A federal court in Brooklyn ordered him held without bond. Court records state he "suddenly lunged at the officers with a large kitchen knife [and]repeatedly attempted to plunge the kitchen knife into the torso of an FBI special agent."

Mumuni later admitted he kept the knife wrapped in a tee-shirt in his bed.

The FBI has been watching him for some time. Prosecutors say he "espouses violent beliefs and is a fervent supporter" of ISIS.

According to court records, he pledged allegiance to the jihadist army and hoped to join them overseas. If that didn't pan out, "he intended to attack law enforcement officers."

Earlier this week, authorities arrested Munther Saleh, a college student and one of Mumuni's friends, charging him with plotting a terrorist attack in New York City.
