Hallmark Series Echoes 'Touched by an Angel' Message
"Touched by an Angel" delighted audiences for nine seasons on CBS. Series creator Martha Williamson is now using her talents for family programming on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel.
Her latest project is a four-movie series spin-off that follows the characters of the Hallmark TV show, "Signed, Sealed, and Delivered."
The first film, "The Impossible Dream," will premier worldwide Sunday, October 4.
"The premise of the whole series is about these four quirky little postal guys who work together to deliver lost letters," Williamson explained.
"They find these letters in Washington, D.C., and are going to help a family track down a missing soldier and daughter missing in Afghanistan presumed dead," she said.
When the "Postables" decode a letter they found from the missing soldier, they realize she's still alive and secretly giving her location.
Their mission? Convince an emergency Senate hearing committee to deploy a rescue mission for the lost soldier under the No Man Left Behind policy.
The movie comes at a time when four American hostages are still being held in Iran.
"So often, and rightly so, we talk about military abroad," Williamson told CBN News. "But it's so easy to forget about sacrifices at home. Their families go through so much and keep the home-front steady while they are off; it is hard on everyone."
Williamson hopes this movie series will bring a similar uplifting message that 'Touched by an Angel' brought to homes for so many years.
"Sunday nights was 'Touched by an Angel' viewing night and people would always say that's the show that really got me ready for the week," Williamson said.
The cast includes actors Eric Mabius from "Ugly Betty," Mark Valley from "Fringe," and Christina Bianco from "Forbidden Broadway."
