Areas of the Philippines ravaged last year by the monster Typhoon Haiyan were hit again this year by Typhoon Hagupit.

The storm lingered for three days in the Philippines, leaving at least 21 people dead and hundreds of thousands fleeing to evacuation centers.

CBN Disaster Relief staff who are still helping rebuild areas hit by last year's storm were able to respond quickly to victims of Typhoon Hagupit as relief donations poured in.

Volunteers from CBN Disaster Relief's local partners were repacking bags of rice for distribution to affected areas.

"Even within 24 hours after the storm, we have local partners in place, we feed hot meals to them, give them relief goods and medical missions," Dr. Kim Pascual told CBN News.

A key factor in the lower incidence of casualties and related injuries is people's preparedness, in which CBN Disaster Relief staff played an important role.

"We helped evacuate the people to safe grounds," Pascual said.

In one community, CBN staff led some 200 people to seek refuge in a cave.

CBN projects, including wells and water chlorinators that were already in place, are providing clean water for survivors of the latest storm.

Victims of Typhoon Haiyan who were provided houses are very thankful their homes withstood Hagupit's strong winds and heavy downpours.

As rescue teams reach remote areas in the coming days, CBN Disaster Relief teams will continue meeting the needs of typhoon survivors, especially with Christmas just a few days away.
